YCHS is proud to announce that Sean Hurst was selected to represent the State of Kansas for the United States Senate Youth Program. As part of this selection, he had to take a test as well as complete an essay about the electoral college. The USSYP annually brings the highest-level officials from each branch of government to meet with this outstanding group of young leaders—two high school juniors or seniors from each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)—for an intensive week-long education and leadership program. The program is merit-based and highly competitive.
The United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution in 1962 creating the UNITED STATES SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM (USSYP), a
national, nonpartisan initiative to provide an annual opportunity for talented high school students with demonstrated leadership abilities to deepen their understanding of America’s political processes and strengthen their resolve to pursue public service careers.
Now in its fifty-ninth year, the program known as Washington Week has been fully funded since inception by THE HEARST FOUNDATIONS as an enduring commitment to preparing young people for civic leadership in our participatory democracy.
Sean will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship after attending this Washington Week, which will take place during spring break. Congratulations Sean Hurst!

School Cancelations
As we continue through the winter season, the district (superintendent) will have the opportunity to upset parents and students by determining whether to have school. Should a decision be made to have school and you as the parent feel it is not safe to send your students to school, please feel free to keep them at home. If it is possible to have school we will, but as the parent you have the final say whether you send your students to school. Should you keep your students’ home for the day, please call the school and report them absent. Thanks!

Happy Birthday, Jordan!!

COVID Report for the Week of February 8, 2020 – As of last Thursday, there were 10 positive COVID cases in the county which should put the district in the red phase, but I’m aware that two cases will drop off the list on Saturday. Subtracting the two cases, the district will be in the yellow phase for the week of February 1, which makes mask-wearing optional. Reminder, that students who are wearing masks regularly will not be required to quarantine should an exposure occur. If exposure does occur, and students don’t wear masks, the students will need to quarantine! Have a great weekend!
