School Closing Notification

Well, it’s that time of year that as the superintendent of schools, I have the opportunity to make people happy or the opportunity to make people upset when it comes to school closings!  I’ve been making these types of school determinations for a lot of years now, and the one thing I’ve learned is you don’t make everyone happy when you do or don’t cancel school due to the weather.

The standard rule that I operate from is I will do what is in the best interest of the students and the employees involved when it comes to making a school cancellation decision.  The understanding I operate from is the safety of or students is the number one priority to both the parents/guardians and me.  However, there might be decisions made regarding school cancellation parents don’t agree with, well you’re the parent or guardian and if you believe it unsafe to attend school, feel free to keep your students home.

School cancellations are not an enjoyable thing to do, there are roads to drive, and calls to make.  This year we will make calls and texts through our new website/app.  Information on school closings can be able to be found on the website, or district app, calls, texts, twitter, and through push notifications.  If you’re not sure if the schools have your most current contact information, give them a call to find out.  Here’s hoping that every decision to cancel school this winter is always the correct one!
