Yellow Phase-The district will be moving into our yellow phase due to 5 reported positive COVID cases in the county. After reviewing the yellow phase, it appears we have been operating more in the yellow phase than we were in the green phase. A few differences I did find include the following: • Some classes like band, choir, or PE may have to be altered b/c of size or location and/or have the nature of their activities modified. • Social distancing will be enforced to the extent possible in each classroom. • Desks/workstations will be arranged in the same direction to avoid students facing each other unless using physical barriers. • When social distancing is not possible, face coverings will be strongly encouraged. • Use of masks by all persons encouraged in public spaces with groups greater than 12 and in accordance with district policy. This includes hallways, restrooms, and break rooms. • Students should not be sent to the board to work unless 6’ distancing, and each student has their own marker. • Route times may be adjusted, or spare bus/vans used to pick up as needed. To view the reopening document, please go to the district website and click documents. The reopening plan can be found at the top of the list. Should we continue to see a spread in COVID cases in the county there is a strong chance we will move to required temperature checks and mask wearing. At the direction of county health, we be assigning seats on our buses and adding another bus to make the shuttle run across town.

However, parents we still need you to fill out the Free and Reduced lunch applications. 1) This program can be ended at any time and parents will be responsible for meals eaten until the form is completed 2) Kansas awards at-risk funding to schools based on those forms. USDA Summer Feeding Program Extended - The USDA has announced the extension of the summer feeding program through December 31, 2020. What this means to parents of the school building, both breakfast and lunch will be FREE to ALL students regardless of income. The summer feeding will begin Tuesday, September 8, 2020. If you have a balance in your lunch accounts, the balance will remain in the account and be used once the summer feeding program ends. As of right now the time frame for the summer feeding program to end is December 31, 2020, however if the funds run short the ending date maybe sooner. It is still important to get free/reduced lunch applications turned in. Should the food-service program end and your approved application aren’t on file, breakfast, and lunch would be charged at full price.

Elementary/MS Breakfast/Lunch - Through student arrival communication, breakfast has been addressed. Breakfast will be a grab and go meal, which is taken to the classroom of the student. Lunch will be a combination of grab and go and in the gym dinning. We have limited the capacity of the gym to approximately 66 students per lunch period. Grade levels have been paired by using K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6-8. Grade levels will alternate on a two-week cycle of eating in the gym or the classroom unless an agreement to change is made by the grade-level groups. In middle school, the smallest class, 7th grade, will dine in Mr. McVey’s classroom under Mr. McVey’s guidance.

Elementary Student Arrival - Just in case the elementary/MS back to school letter doesn’t arrive before Thursday, we will be posting parts of the changes occurring this year at the elementary school to get this information out to as many of you as we can. There will be several postings of this information, so we apologize in advance if it seems we’re over sending this information out. Student Arrival - Main Entrance - The doors of the elementary school will open at 7:30 am. Students who arrive early will be asked to wait outside until that time. Students will also be asked to keep distancing the best they can while waiting. K-5 students who are not eating breakfast will go to the left and proceed to their classrooms. Those eating breakfast will turn right and proceed to the gym to pick up a grab-and-go breakfast and then go to the classroom. Middle school students entering the building through the main entrance will turn right and either go to their first-hour classroom or go through the gym and pick up a grab and go breakfast and head to their first-hour classroom. Bus/Westside - The entrance to the gym has changed. Students entering through the west entrance, north of the gym door, will proceed to the gym. These students will either get in the breakfast line or take the north gym route and then head for their first-hour classrooms.

Elementary Student Departures – A letter has been sent to all households of elementary students on some of the procedures for the upcoming school year. With the status of the mail delivery, I thought I would post the biggest change taking place not to surprise as many people as possible. Student Departures will be one of the biggest changes to take place. We will stagger the student dismissal by dismissing community walking students at 3:05, followed by bus students at 3:10, and those being picked up by parents at 3:15. The biggest change will come with not using the circle drive for student pick up and not having staff open doors for students. Parents picking up students are asked to pull in, lights facing the fence, on State street. Students will be dismissed and walk down the sidewalk to meet their rides. Parents are welcome to wait outside for their students to be dismissed from school, but we would ask that you practice social distancing. Please help make this process smooth. The dismissal of students being transported is an area we would like to see flow much better this year and with your help, we can accomplish this change.

Parents/Guardians!! Online enrollment information is being sent to all parents/guardians with a current email address on file in PowerSchool. New students(not previously enrolled) will be able to access the link that will follow this message. EVERYONE will need to create a parent enrollment account. This is different than your PowerSchool account. If you have a returning student & did not receive an email you will need to come to the school during enrollment. We have found a small glitch that happens randomly. If the word Parents auto-populates in the Other Parent/Guardian field & this DOES NOT apply to your family just delete the word & go on. If it does apply simply fill in the remaining blanks & proceed. Here is the link for New Student Enrollment:  https://registration.powerschool.com/family/gosnap.aspx?action=21281&culture=enQuestions call 620-625-8860 (Elementary) or 620-625-8820 (High School)

89,994 Meals! WOW!! This could not of been done without the close coordination between Shelley Davis, John Rice, and Dr. Pegram. The food service staff, paras, teachers, bus drivers, and riders all gave up their summers off to provide meals to our Woodson County kids. These staff members went above and beyond to make this happen. The District Thanks you for All Your Hard Work, Time, and Dedication. You are appreciated more than you will ever know. School Reopening Information-7/17/20 After listening to a state meeting regarding reopening schools on Thursday, not much new was learned. There will be an executive order delaying the start date of schools signed on Monday, with some additional requirements schools will have to address. The executive order will then need to be approved or rejected from the state board of education, which should take place later next week. What this means for the Woodson School District is we are on hold for another week. If the order is rejected, we will open on August 13 as scheduled. If the state board approves, the order school will begin September 9 with additional requirements in place. Should the state board approve the executive order delaying the start of school, we will go back to the drawing board and rework the school calendar to account for 18 missed school days, along with addressing any new requirements that come from the executive order. When we know more details as to what the state board determines, we will share that information with you.

By now, I’m assuming everyone is aware that we will have a delayed start to school. It appears that school will not begin until September 8th. This change will require the district to change the calendar to address the requirements of the state in meeting the number of hours students will have to attend school. Hopefully, with this delay, we will be better prepared to open the buildings back up. We should learn more later today when we have our state Zoom meeting with the state department. A group of teachers and myself will be listing in on this meeting in hopes of understanding what we have to do and what is going to be required. Once we know the parameters of opening the buildings, we will begin working on a district plan to reopen. As more information is available, we will attempt to keep you informed as to what is taking place.

If your household already receives Food Assistance, TANF, Child Care or Medicaid benefits no further action is needed. This benefit will automatically be added to your Kansas Benefits Card (or you will be mailed a Kansas Benefits Card if only on Medicaid). Woodson 366 Update April 10, 2020 We’ve now completed two weeks of the Woodson Continuous Learning. As expected, the delivery of educational opportunities improved over the second week compared with the first. The instructional staff adjusted what wasn’t working and made the changes necessary to improve the delivery system. The district is very proud of the efforts the instruction staff has made in providing the students of the district the opportunity to continue the learning process. As we enter the next couple of weeks, the district will begin to address graduation and other district activities that are traditionally done in the last semester of school. We will do our best to normalize, perhaps an entirely different manner, what has been usually done. The normalizing won’t apply to all events due to statewide restrictions, but we will do our best. We do want to thank everyone for the input you provided with the district survey. The information you provided us allowed the district a peek into how things were working for you. The information provided has also allowed the instructional staff to address some of your concerns. Please check and see if your students are checking their school email. We've got a lot of information going out to them and we're receiving notice from the instructional staff they aren't getting replies from some students. If you want to check on assignments for the week, the assignments are on the district web-page under the menu tab. The student assignment link is at the top of the list. Before closing off, I want to publicly thank the food service department, the transportation department, and the district volunteers for everything they are doing to feed the students of the school district. The district is providing 520 meal bags daily to the children of the Woodson School District. The participation rate is nearly 110% compared to our district enrollment. What this means is the district was able to find those children who are not in school yet and provide them the same food service opportunities as our students who attend school. All of this couldn’t have been done with the work of all the individuals involved in the foodservice program. If you get a chance, take the time to thank those individuals who are helping the students of the Woodson School District.

There have been some questions regarding the district feeding program as to whether it is still in effect. The answer is YES! Meals will be delivered until the official last day of school unless we are ordered not to. Under the Governor's order, we can still feed our students.

District Update March 27, 2020 Continuous Learning Plan The continuous learning plan is now activated on the district website. With my little experience with the link, it appears to work best from a computer. If you are using an iPhone, you will need to hold your finger on the link for a second or two, and then open the page. I can’t tell you how an android phone works since I haven’t seen it operate. If you have problems with the page, please let us know. This page was created by Mrs. Patty Dick, with input from other Woodson teachers. Our instructional staff continues to amaze me as to what they will do to help the students and parents of the Woodson School District! NCCC CTE On-Campus Courses NCCC has canceled the two technical courses being taught at the high school. Students in these classes will receive the grade they had at the time of the school closure from the district. As for the NCCC grade, it will be recorded as incomplete. Arrangements to complete the college portion of the courses will be addressed through NCCC. Food Service If you would, please make sure there are no dogs running loose when meals are delivered on the bus routes. If you do have dogs running loose, these deliveries won’t be made unless someone comes to the vehicle to pick up the meals. As far as meals, the district delivered another record high on Thursday. The foodservice and transportation staff delivered 476 meals! The work of these two departments and the volunteer work of the teachers and classified staff in bagging the meals has been impressive! I have also been told there might be a surprise treat in the bag today?

District Update March 26, 2020 Continuous Learning Plan The continuous learning plan that can be found on the district website will be activated sometime on Friday. When the site activated, a notification will be sent. Hopefully, this site will allow you to find assignments and activities for you, students. As always, it is your decision to how much or how little you determine your student needs to do. Food Service Another day of success in the foodservice area. On Wednesday, the foodservice department delivered 460 bags or delivered 920 meals to the children of the school district. To put that in perspective, if everyone was a student in the Woodson School District, the foodservice staff would have provided meals to 96% of our students! The current district food service program is open to any child in the district age 1-18, whether they are enrolled in the district or not. Should you know of some families hosting children from another school district or from out-of-state, let them know about this food resource. To add students to the out-of-town deliveries, email sdavis@usd336.net. Personal Items The elementary will send out a notice to when and how personal items may be picked up. I want to commend the work of the custodial staff and those who volunteered to help them make a very quick change in how students, at the high school, would pick up their belonging. It was impressive seeing and hearing how everyone helped one another!

District Update March 25, 2020 Student Assignments • The district will be using two methods to deliver continuous learning to our students. The first being online learning, which will be the easiest for most of the staff to provide. Most lessons will work through programs our students already know and use daily. Contact with the student’s teachers will also be more accessible. For those receiving packets, we will attempt to mail these out on Friday’s. When you receive them is anyone’s guess. If you would, put some time aside during the day to allow your students to complete the work. The continuous learning plan developed by the instructional staff is our attempt to allow students to still progress in their education. As with anything the district does to provide educational opportunities, the role of the parent is the essential factor in the learning process. What you can do to help out the teachers with these assignments would be appreciated. Please have your students check their emails. We have teachers trying to contact them to see what we can do for them and just to check in to see how they are doing. NCCC Classes • The district has two NCCC Career and Technical courses. As far as the district is concerned, we do not require these courses to be completed for our records. NCCC has asked the instructors to complete the classes since the class size is below the ten-person requirement to meet. If these courses aren’t finished, students will receive an incomplete for the semester from NCCC. I am going to leave the decision of completing the coursework up to the parents. Again, as far as high school credit, the district has what it needs to award the student’s grades. Website Update • Plans are to activate the district learning plan link sometime on Friday. This site will allow you to see the assignments for the week of all teachers. Hopefully, there won’t be any problems accessing this site. If you do run into trouble finding what you need, please let us know. Food Service • After two days of serving meals, the district has delivered over 800 bags of food. These bags include breakfast and lunch for a total of 1,600 meals being served. The number of meals couldn’t be accomplished without the work of the foodservice staff and a variety of classified and certified help with the bagging of the meals. If there are still rural children and students, we aren’t serving email sdavis@usd366.net where we can get them added to our deliveries. The Yates Center students can pick up meals at the high school from 11 am to noon. Ages of the children and students who can receive meals are 1-18 years old. County/State Shelter in Place • Should there be a shelter in place order made for Woodson County of the State, we will post this, along with what it means to deliver educational support to our students. At the current time, there has been no such order placed, but should there be, we will do what we can to support the students of the Woodson School District.

Woodson 366 Update Teachers reported back to work today to begin developing lessons for students. For the teachers, this week is a planning and preparation week. The preparation will include the development of both virtual or packet learning. Packet learning can either be emailed or delivered through the US mail. The delivery method will be determined through teacher contact with parents and students. All lessons will be posted online on the district website and should be available on the district mobile app. All assignments should be in place on Friday for the week of March 30th. Future weekly lessons will be posted by Friday for the next week. The district is willing to send home school devices for your students. If devices are needed in your homes, please contact the building your student attends to arrange to pick up. Parents, if you could update your phone numbers and email addresses, this would be much appreciated. As with anything new, and only having a week to accomplish this, there will be issues arise. If something isn’t working correctly, please let the buildings know. They will do their best to see that a solution is resolved. A big thank you goes out to all of those involved in the preparation and delivery of meals on Monday. This group provided 394 meals to the students of the school district! After the first day, this group has re-evaluated the process and have come up with ideas to streamline the process to help in the preparation and delivery process. Please remember, the program is open to all children ages 1-18. The Yates Center drive-through is open from 11-noon Monday through Friday, located in the southwest parking lot of the high school.

Beginning Monday, March 23rd, the district will start providing meals to any child ages 1-18 in the school district. If you are on a bus route, these meals will be delivered to you. If you have children, not in school who meet the qualification, please notify both Shelly Davis (sdavis@usd366.net) and John Rice (jrice@usd366.net) regarding additional meals needed. Each sack will include lunch for the day and breakfast for the next day. The routes are scheduled to depart at 10 am each day, Monday through Friday. We would ask if you don’t want this service that you contact both Mrs. Davis and Mr. Rice and that there be someone at home since we must give them to an individual. Also, if someone could come to the vehicle to grab the sacks, this would help us in delivering the meals in a more timely manner. If you live in Yates Center, there will be a drive-through located at the high school that you can go through to receive the meals. The drive-through will be from 11 am-12 pm. If you know of any families in the district who have children, not in school, and who live in the country, please let Mrs. Davis and Mr. Rice know. If there are families, you know, in Yates Center who have children, but they aren’t in school, please let them know of this program. As with anything new, we do expect we will have glitches in this system and will do all we can do to fix them as fast as we can. If we miss someone on the routes, please let us know where we can adjust the routes. The district staff will be meeting next week to develop our continuous learning plan. The details will more likely be released next Friday, March 27th. Please understand the current situation is very fluid and changing hourly. We will do what we can to adjust to any changes that come our way. To stay abreast of current events in the school district, we highly encourage all patrons to follow the district website at https://www.usd366.net/ and to download the district app, Woodson USD 366, at the app store.

This is copied from the Kansas FFA. It is always nice to see our teachers being recognized. Some students from the Yates Center FFA Chapter wanted to take a moment to recognize their Ag Teacher, Mr. Kyle McGee for his impact not only on his students, but also in their community. In his time as the advisor there he has greatly increased the number of active members in the chapter, the quality of fundraisers, and the involvement within the community. "Mr. McGee encouraged me to be in FFA. It has changed me for the better and I am very grateful," and "Thank you for making our club one of the most involved in the community," are just a few of the notes of appreciation left for this Ag Teacher. Mr. McGee, thank you for your dedication and service to Kansas FFA and your community. You are a true testament to "Living to Serve," and the Association is so grateful for an example like you for our members. #TeacherTuesday
